I've got a Wii!
After three weeks of abject failure, I finally swallowed my pride and waited outside of Target at 5:50 AM for my chance to buy a Wii. I was ninth in line for a total of 39 consoles. By 7 AM, there were about 24 people in line, and by 7:30, people began to be turned away (an experience I was all too familiar with). Not long after 8 AM, I walked out of the store with my Wii, Rayman Raving Rabbids (which is hilarious), and Zelda (which is stunning).
And none too soon, I ordered the impossible to find component cables for the Wii around the time of the systems' launch and they're expected to arrive tomorrow. The only dilemma now I face is the extreme shortage of Wii remotes and nunchucks, but those accessories should be a bit easier to come by.
Funnily enough, the last time I waited at an ungodly hour in the hope of procuring a Wii was Black Friday two weeks previous. And I ended up lining up directly behind the very same person I was behind at the Gamestop which had only three units.
On top of all this, I also received notice that my pre-order of Dragon Avenger is enroute from Amazon.com! Which is great because it seems like ages since I've really been able to sink into a book. (Note to self: remark on Eragon and HDM films adaptations in a future post.)
Planning to post more detailed impressions as time permits on dragaroo.net this week. Stay tuned.

Hay guys!
I'm pretty sure no one is particularly concerned about this matter (frankly, myself included), but dragaroo.net is pointing to dailygrowl.net for some mysterious reason that I have no control over. (You can still get to the site at dailygrowl.net/dragaroo though.)
And so for those of you wondering why I'm still using LJ as my primary publishing platform, there you go; seems that anything else goes berserk half the time.
And that's not all!
For some reason my WordPress installation stopped functioning so I can't update the Daily Growl site. Not that I honestly would if I could.
Considering the fact that the latest incarnation of dragaroo.net uses zero databases, I'm considering switching over the domain to a good, reliable, ad-free host. Though, I should admit that I'm still debating whether the material I post would qualify as...
Insert segue here!
In other news, Mario Kart DS is "freakin' sweet". I must admit, I was more than a little skeptical at first - I decided not to continue 'testing' Nintendogs "Best Friends Edition" (I bought the Nintendogs system bundle) because shouting 'Pepper', 'Sit Girl' and 'Roll Over' in my room with the door locked (so as not to draw any attention) was just a tad bit too conspicuous... not to mention, somewhat creepy. *ahem*
Anyway, back to Mario Kart DS plays exactly as you would expect, but where it really shines is the Nintendo Wi-Fi free online multiplayer. It took some manual tweaking of my Netgear router, but once I worked out the kinks, it worked like a charm. What caught me off guard about the online functionality actually was the intensity of the system; human players don't work like computer players and as a result, the two 'cups' I participated were neck-in-neck. I know, it probably sounds stupid to hear me saying this; it's really something you've got to try for yourself. If I ever had any doubt in regards to whether I would purchase a DS for myself (as opposed to the borrowed system for my younger sibling), that doubt would have been completely put to rest by my experience today.
That, and it's so much less complicated and so much more easy to jump in and out of. I don't have the time anymore to invest in time (not to mention money)-sinks like MMOs and even the last PC game I bought (and generally wasn't feeling the love for), Black & White 2. I ended up jumping back in my car and playing Mario Kart during both of my 10 minute breaks at work and waiting for the left turn signal on Douglas-Sierra. Scary.
Needless to say, I'm going to have to put wrap this thing back up in it's box and get my own fairly soon before I begin to show signs of use on this one. I was hoping here would be some DS deals on Black Friday, but according to these wonderful sites, there aren't any significant reductions at any of the major resellers. And as I'm not particularity interested in procuring the bright red Mario Kart system bundle, I'll probably just grab the standard silver scheme (and maybe Nintendogs at Target Black Friday... maybe...) in the next week or so.
