Busy Week

  • Oct. 5th, 2006 at 1:05 AM
Well, turns out it's a busy week for me. Had a speech to give today (which was stressful), a program I needed to finish up and submit, and a test tomorrow (Note to self: BUY SCANTRONS) in Business Communications and Friday in Decision Systems. Not to mention, a blog post to write, obligatory sketches, and I kinda wanted to catch the season premiere of Lost on OTA-HD.

So, naturally, I played Second Life.

This time on my own account (that's off the Teen grid).

I'm holding off on my impressions for another day or two simply because of time, but I figured I'd post some thoughts while the info is still fresh in my mind.

Days 1-2) After leaving the Welcome zone (or is it island? are they called zones?), I donned a crazy robo-dragon avatar and flew to the newly founded CNET Amphitheater to give a lecture. The building is next to a gigantic auditorium for something called "Millions of Us". Not sure exactly what that is. There was an particularly nefarious-looking duck in the audience which unnerved me, so I left to shop for a better avatar, window-shopping at a number of eye-opening places, including Lost Furest Creatures. (Above: MacBook screenshots.)

Day 3) I ultimately decided on an amazingly well-built model distributed by Ninja Weasel Studios (which cost me $2-3 of pocket cash through the Linden -> USD currency exchange) and then danced the night away in a nightclub (with a live DJ and, well... cages... to boot) while I rummaged through the freebies I'd accumulated in my inventory. (Above: PC screenshots.)

I know all this must sound pretty ridiculous. I can assure you, it is. And even so, I'm having a blast.

Oh, and yes, I have a human avatar as well which bears some kind of resemblance to my actual person... but that's just kinda.... weird. :p

Again, detailed impressions are down the pipeline... and no, I don't attend to turn this into a blog exclusively regarding my SL avatar. Just while I get my feet wet.
